When I was 29, my partner gave me an unforgettable piece of advice.
I was just starting to get back into fitness, and had been running myself ragged trying to get back in shape. But, like most beginners, I was making a lot of mistakes: not measuring portions, having an inconsistent diet, not hitting my protein goals.
Until one day, he said to me:
“If you could have done it alone, you would have already.”
That day, my whole life changed.
It completely changed how I saw my problems. I had always tried to do things on my own. I figured if I could just try a little harder, or have a little more discipline, I would be successful.
But he was right, if that were true, I would already have be absolutely shredded. And I wasn’t.
So I started joining teams.
I joined a gym with group workouts where I was expected to show up and put in the work. He started acting as my personal trainer, keeping me accountable to workouts and my diet. And it started working.
It worked so well that I started doing this for all my goals.
I stopped seeing everything as a “me” goal and started joining teams aligned with my goals. The teams created accountability. Plus they have built in sounding boards where you can bounce any troubles off your teammates.
If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.
Now, no matter what, I look for the teams that will help get me where I’m going and I’m crushing goals left and right.
